Hi People

I have managed to remove my cluch bearing but now when I go to undo the cluch nut the motor turns.

Are there any tricks that people know of?

I was planning to take the cylinder head off and stick a block of wood inside the cylinder to stop the motor turning.

Is this the best or easiest way?

Cheers

Matt

hi Matt,

If you want to loosen the nut, you have to block the crankshaft from movement. if you decide to block the crankshaft by your way, you have to watch out that the piece of wood is long enough to keep the piston at the lower dead point.
Another way to block the crankshaft, which i prefer,is to screw in the crankshaft blocking bolt on the front of the casing. You will find the blocking bolt on the top of the casing, its the bolt that keeps the spark-cable on his place. When you unscrewed the bolt, you have to screw it in at the front side of the casing at the left side, where normaly the fueltank is assembled.
when this is done, you can loosen the nut.
good luck.

Thanks Hans

That sounds much more simple. I will let you know how I get on.

Cheers

You have to make sure that the crankshaft is in the right position.
the bloccking bolt needs to lean against the right flank of the recess in the crankshaftdisc.

Hi People

I now have the little 1700 up and running. In the weekend it covered 58km on a moped run with the only problem being a crack in the bottom of the tank (Wrapped the tank in insulation tape and it finished).

I did not have too much luck when using the "spark plug lead retainer bolt" to lock the crank movement. The bolt was to soft and bent.

I removed the cylinder, side crankcase cover and straightened the bent retaining bolt and removed it. I then managed to wedge the end of a spanner between the end of the crank and the casing and undid the clutch nut.

In future I would probably look for something made of stronger metal to place in the crank case locking hole.

Cheers

Matt

You also could try to slip the spanner over the 21mm nut andt then mounting the flywheel again to aid in holding the
shaft.
I use the inside part of an old flywheel which still has the retainer present and mounted a lever on the outside using the three bolt holes as a tool to arrest the shaft.

The use of a 30 mm M6 bold, removing the first 5mm of the threat only(up to the bottom of the threat) gives you a blokking-bold strong enough to hold the cranckshaft.
