Hi, i used to own several Solexes 3800 export from 1985, but i ran into this delightful old Koffertje, i could not resist.

I run the Swedish www.solexine.se forum, but nobody on the forum owns a dutch Solex and can supply any info about them.
Almost all Solexes in Sweden are 3800 Export from 1985, assembled at the Cykelfabriken in Lomma, southern Sweden.
The Koffertje is intact and working even if rusty, i do not plan a complete overhaul, just some wax and love, so i´ll ride it as it is.
The front side-mudgards and the chain protection are gone, as well as the gas-command spokes, but it is otherwise complete.
No idea how old it is or what the model´s name exactely is...
Anybody is welcome on our forum!
Greetings from Sweden!
Bruno

Please have a look at our starting page, there are several drop down menu's that can be used to extract usefull information.
Exploded views are available over there as well as listed numbers of engines which are THE guidance to determin the age of Dutch manufactured solex-es

as an example use exploded views

It's a pretty rare utility model with its original black rims and black handlebars.
Doesn't it have a small chain protector ?

Indeed, it is the so called "spaarmodel" ( save you the money)
A cheap version of "het koffertje" ( small suitcase) so without the suitcase, which is the nick name for the little tool holder at the place of the footrest.
The toolholder is replaced by an aluminum stamped plate, to save on money the chrome plating is disgarded in favour of painting. It should have rare pedals with the solex brand name on it.

There are some pictures of this specific one on our "fotoalbum" I have made these because a friend om mine owns a "mint" one

"spaarmodel"

As you can see there is no chain guard but merely a small piece of metal

Have a check on the arrangement of the decompression lever, it is 90 degrees tilted the flat plane should run parrallel to the carburetor and not perpendicular

Hi, yes it has a small chain protector, a spaarmodel feature i guess and the big protector is not missing after all.
There are holes in the frame at the right places for that so i thought maybe it should be one.
Is see now on the pics of the spaarmodel that it´s the way it should be, nice!
The pedals are looking like original mount but are stamped "JRC" with an arrow under, not Solex.
The rear tire is Solex original, all black and in very good shape, front is black and white Vredestein, HULPMOTOR on the flancs, meaning help-motor tyre (almost the same in Swedish "Hjälpmotor", very similar to duch and many times, if you exclude danish and Norwegian, the only two european languages using the same words for the same thing)
The saddle is ok, i will stich it back where it is missing.
Is the spaarmodel missing front side-mudguards too?
The splash plate is too damaged and i´ll take it out for straightening, TIG-welding and a new paint, wich is too bad because i don´t want the bike to look new anywhere.
It has the original dutch-style lock on the rear wheel, and i have the key...
I wonder what the triangular non-painted metal-part at the upper side of the fork is, could it be a mout for a fuel-can retainer?

This bike IS special, really, Solex old-timers are very rare in Sweden as they were only allowed briefly and could not meet the swedish requirements until 1985.
And, dutch Solexes could be only 5pcs in Sweden or less.
All of them private imports from Holland, really rare indeed, not even road legal but who would know?.
Mopeds of that class are not registered at all in Sweden, you just insure them, like back in the old days in France.

I am missing the gas spokes and the oval-like connector between the carburettor throttle and the decompressor-gas commands, but i have no idea of how it should look, swedish Solexes are very different there, so i cannot tell about the decompressor part yet.

In between the carburetor and the cylinder there is a plate mounted on the throttle drum. this plate has one stub ( Left hand side when sitting on the bike) with a small groove in which the link system is mounted , standing "Loose" on the stub on the other side of this plate

On the right hand side a hole is in the plate where the governing spoke should fit.
If you pull the spoke the gas drum closes and even further the stub swivels upward pushing the link into the lever on the head thus engaging the decompression valve.
Play between lever and valv is adjusten by rotating the valve ( the spring loaded nut of the valve is retained by the lever and will not rotate only the position on the valve stem changes.
Very fine thread is present on the valve stem to allow for secure adjustment

Thanks Joan, and everybody!
I will talk to the seller about that plate, he said he may still have it "somewhere".
That is a very small part to lose *S*
I found the gas-spoke, it was in 2 pieces, cut in the middle.
Cannot really figure out how the gas levers should work.
There is a tiny oval rubber part on the spoke, i recall it should be there, what function does it have?
We have original Swedish Solex documention on our site, as well as blueprints and a 3D model of the 3800 motor (SolidWorks, can be converted), some stuff comes from Cyclogalet, some not but all free for member-download.
A funny thing for a spaarmodel is the built-in puller on the magneto, nice detail.
I had to produce heavy duty pullers for the 3800 magneto wheel, from Bernique´s drawings, for the members of Solexine and sell them at self-cost to allow them to fix points and condensators without ruining the magneto-wheel.
(If anybody need some i can trade for small Koffertje parts, they are worth 10 euros a piece, self-cost.)
It feels like there is very little compression from the motor, the decompression valve may need adjustment and the cylinder walls a slight honing.
I guess the gaskets for cylinder top are not the same as 3800?

laugh Very good news, thanks for that!
Got the splash-plate out, straightened it and painted it lightly with half-gloss black motor paint, with some wax it will look ok.
My friends are teasing me to take the bike apart, sandblast it and powder-coat it, something they can forget... wink

This is done often, you can rejoin them with a wire-connector, this makes adjusting easier.

Yes, i saw something about it around here, good idea!
But the spoke is very bent back and forth, maybe i must fabricate a new one, now i know at least exactely how it looks, i found the pictures showing it too.

I am very grateful for your warm welcome and immediate help from you all, you seem a nice, friendly and active forum, as it should!
THANKS!!!

The rubber (plastic) may be the remnant of an "anti wear"ring that sometimes is fitted in the plate that belongs to the command drum (Throttle) thus preventing steel to steel contact ( spoke to plate)
it is a small grooved ring ( in Dutch "tule") that slips into the oversized hole in the plate.

New spokes easily can be made from stainless steel weldig (TIG) wire. wheel spokes normally are too short to be used

Now i found the motor documentation on the model 660 wich seems the same at http://documatheque.galet.free.fr/index.php?cat=24
The exploded pictures are very clear, now i get a grip on how it should be put together.

Thanks for the god hint Joan!
The stainless TIG rods are more of use making spokes and beams than to weld with *S* That´s where the half of the rods we buy goes...
Melting down the tip with the TIG would form the cone-like thing at the end of the spoke, i´ll try that.
